Naval Architects

Naval Architect position requires 5+ years of experience.

A Naval Architect develops designs of marine vessels and floating structures, such as ships, barges, tugs, etc. and performs calculations necessary to assist in the design and fabrication of such vessels.

The ideal candidate must possess a B.S. degree in Naval Architecture with knowledge in vessel design development, vessel arrangements, piping system design, machinery selection, machinery design, and design integration for marine vessels such as oceangoing vessels, patrol vessels, offshore support vessels, research vessels, tugs, and barges. Excellent communication and leadership skills are a must in addition to familiarity with ABS, CFR, USCG, SOLAS, IMO and other applicable regulations. Project Manager/ Sr. Naval Architect

Project Manager/ Sr. Naval Architect position requires 10+ years of experience.

Project Manager/ Sr. Naval Architect coordinates activities of ship design related to new building, conversion or repair projects to ensure that the goals and objectives of the project are accomplished within the prescribed time frame and funding parameters. Apply intense and diversified knowledge of engineering principles and practices in broad areas of technical responsibilities. The Naval Architect and Marine Engineer will perform essential duties and responsibilities personally or through coordination with other managers, engineers, designers, and drafters. Responsibilities as a minimum include performing engineering to develop ship preliminary design, functional design, and integrating the work of structural, mechanical and electrical disciplines in compliance with ABS, DNV, Lloyds, BV and other applicable industry standards. Provide design and engineering services for commercial and government vessels ranging from Offshore Support Vessels to Towing Vessels, Barges, River Vessels, Ice class vessels and High-Speed Craft. Conduct analysis of ship scantlings, section modulus, and deck layouts and schematics. Propose new approaches to problems encountered and make recommendations for changes in methods, procedures, and designs. Perform necessary engineering calculations, including but not limited to stability, resistance, propulsion, sea keeping, power trade off analysis, EPLA, mooring calculations, electrical, equipment technical and costing analysis, RM&A and marine system design by using both computer software and hand calculations. Perform hull form design, optimization and structural analysis using finite element software. Obtain regulatory approvals, coordinate with clients and develop work schedules.

Shipboard auxiliary systems including but not limited to fuel, bilge, ballast, exhaust, cooling water, heating systems, HVAC, compressed air, other machinery support systems etc. conceptual and functional design, creation of schematics and layouts with instrumentation, components selection per the applicable standards, generating bill of materials for systems. Monitor the technical quality, content and consistency of action of all assigned projects. Review other engineer discipline’s work and provide appropriate guidance and advice when necessary. Prepare ship design and construction specifications, equipment purchases technical specifications, qualification statements, proposals, bids and other presentation materials. Manages all naval architectural requirements of the project and ensure the quality of deliverables meets contract requirements within the required time period. Responsible for Professional Engineer review and shall certify drawings and design documents.

Master’s degree in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering and over 10 years related industry experience in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering. A U.S. Professional Engineer (P.E.) license in the field of Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering is required. At least 2 years of experience working as field engineer in a shipyard is required. Experience with 3D modeling tools Rhino and SolidWorks is required. Experience with performing stability, resistance and propulsion calculations, marine piping systems and HVAC design, integrated electrical propulsion system design. Experience in ship construction oversight and project management skills required, along with the ability to coordinate with overseas team and multiple subcontractors. Experience in providing production design support to shipyards in new vessel construction, repair, and vessel modification. Experience in preparing the technical proposals for government opportunities, understanding the solicitation requirements, assist in develop the technical process of bids, pricing materials and estimating labor. Experience with ABS, ABS Ice Class Rules, USCG 46 CFR, MARPOL, SOLAS, and other codes applicable to designing commercial and government ships. Experience with Finite Element software’s similar to ANSYS is required. Experience with Microsoft Suite and MS Project. Strong English language verbal and written skills are required. Experience should involve performing the engineering assignments associated with the systems design to ensure proposed designs meet the contract requirements.

Sr. Marine Electrical Engineer

The ideal candidate should possess a B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering with knowledge in electrical distribution system design development, arrangements, component selection, tradeoff analysis, electrical load analysis, ArcFlash hazard analysis, coordination studies, FMEA and design integration is preferred. Experience related to marine vessels such as oceangoing vessels, patrol vessels, offshore support vessels, research vessels, tugs, and barges is a plus, but is not mandatory. Excellent communication and leadership skills are a must in addition to familiarity with IEC, NEC, IEEE, ABS, CFR, USCG, SOLAS, IMO and other applicable regulations is preferred. Experience with AutoCAD, EZpower, ETAP, MATLAB software is a plus. The ability to multitask and work within a fast-paced environment is imperative. They should be willing to travel occasionally.

Coordinates design criteria with engineering, manufacturing, tooling, material, and planning group such as ease of manufacture, availability of materials, and contractual specifications. Ability to produce technical drawings, bill of materials, drawing quality checks, and maintain contract compliance. Experience related to marine vessels such as oceangoing vessels, patrol vessels, offshore support vessels, research vessels, tugs, and barges is a plus, but not mandatory.
